StreamFoundry consultants have many decades of mainframe software and services expertise developed at companies including Citi, American Express, IBM, Morgan Stanley, BellSouth, Target, Nissan, Northwest Airlines, Home Depot and others. Our consultants have the knowledge and best-practice expertise to ensure that our Clients are making the most of their IBM mainframe investment.

For a global financial company, StreamFoundry worked closely with the Client to plan and execute a project to migrate key system software products from a vendor to an existing strategic partner’s products. The project was motivated by the desire to save licensing costs and to improve service and support received from the new products.

Results:

  • Successfully migrated system software including output, shared storage, multi-session handling, performance, spool and database products.
  • Utilized a master project plan to plan and track migrations tasks for the almost 1 year project.
  • Sustained a broad scope of activities including analysis and planning, product installation and administration, testing, production cutover and post cutover support.

StreamFoundry has used this project methodology for many software migration projects. We start with a basic estimate, based on our many projects, to complete the migration work. Next, we perform a detailed assessment to gather the details needed to refine the estimate. We work with the Client to gather information about the currently installed product set in areas like system automation, DB2 tools, system performance and availability management. It is not uncommon for the project scope to involve 25 to 35 different products.

When the analysis is completed and the assessment report is prepared, the Client can confidently make a go or nogo decision to have us carry out the entire project. Regardless of the Client’s decision, they are well informed about what is required to replace their vendor product set with a lower costs and more resilient solution. Some clients complete the migrations with at least some help from us whereas others have us go forward with the entire proposed scope.
